Who we are, what we do, and the history of our organization.
The Gjirokastra Foundation (formerly GCDO – Gjirokastra Conservation and Development Organization) is a non–governmental and non-for-profit organization working mainly in Gjirokastra, a UNESCO World Heritage site. In some cases the Foundation extends its work even in other sites – such as Berat – and around the country. Its mission is the preservation and development of heritage as a source for social and economic development. It was founded in 2001 with the support of the Packard Humanities Institute.
