The GJIROKASTRA CONSERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT ORGANIZATION (GCDO) an Albanian NGO supported by Packard Humanities Institute, is announcing 3 vacant positions for architect-restorer traines to work for the “Gjirokastra 2008-2011“.

An initial six candidates will work part-time in a probationary period of two months (September and October 2008), after which 3 profesionals will be selected. The succesful candidates will be working in the UNESCO World Heritage Town of Gjirokastra on a full time basis from November 2008 until 2011.

“Gjirokastra 2008-2011“ is a multipartnership project which aim is to work towards the restoration of a number of monuments (houses) in Gjirokastra while providing hands-on training for young professionals. The Swedish Foundation, Cultural Heritage without Borders is funding the project jointly with the GCDO.

The tasks of the project are mainly concerned with:

  • Producing all the required documentation for restoration projects,
    Compiling restoration projects
    Supervision of the execution of restoration project

The project seeks for professionals willing to learn and to work in the restoration/conservation field. They will have the chance to work and be trained by experienced cultural heritage professionals from both Cultural Heritage without Borders and Institute of Monuments of Culture, Tirana.

If you are an architect, architect restorer and/or civil engineer, no older than 35 years, currently employed in specialised institutions for cultural heritage, or have an interest in heritage and restoration, are welcomed to apply by submitting:
